About Candy Apple

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 21-0164
  • Color: Chocolate
  • Current Age: 9 Years 6 Months (best estimate)

Candy Apple got her name because she is as sweet as candy.  While she is very sweet, she is also timid and will need some time to feel safe.  She was found in the middle of a busy highway, scared and alone.  Her foster home is working with her by giving her time to learn she is ok and to trust.  She gets better each day but things like picking her up to give her a kiss or reaching for her still scares her, even from her foster family.  She is scared of storms and even rain.  She just shivers.  She does love to be in your lap and gives lots of kisses.  She sleeps quietly in a crate, unless it is storming.  She has learned some routines already.  She does depend on other dogs to teach her that its ok.  She watches them and if they are ok to join something, she will too.  She seems to be mostly housebroken but she is a dachshund and still learning our routines.  She is a lovable girl that just needs to know she is safe and loved.

Candy came to us with her skin in bad shape.  She is on medicated shampoo to help her coat get healthy and grow back in areas where it has really gotten thin and missing.  She was found covered in fleas. This will take some time.  She also needs a dental.  During this time, the foster family will continue to work on her with trust and help her to learn she is safe and loved.  If you would like to help DDRTX help Candy with her expenses, please click on the sponsor me button under her picture!
