RECOGNITION & GRATITUDE

It is with sincere gratitude and appreciation that I introduce you to the wonderful volunteers and necessary support system for rescued dachshunds in the San Antonio area. I could not do what I do without each and every one of them! Come join us! It's rewarding, eye opening, enjoyable and heartwarming.
This is Christine McEntyre, owner and operator of Diamond Dachshund Rescue.  Her dedication and tireless efforts have enabled hundreds of dachshunds to be rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed to permanent and loving families.  Christine is a bit of a different sort of rescuer in that she pays special and close attention to what each individual dog wants in a home.  The body language and personality of each dog is carefully noted to ensure that the placement of the dog in a specific home, will be a permanent and happy one.  Christine relies heavily on the dedicated and compassionate group of volunteers involved with DDR to help with fostering, home visits, transports, shelter pulls and placements of the dachshunds in need, educational events and fundraising.  Christine has been fostering and rescuing since 1998 and averages between 90 and 120 adoptions each year, with a less than 2% return rate due to the care taken in placements, keeping in touch with adopters, education and the foster program.
What would I do without Letty Gonzales?! She's been beyond helpful and supportive! Letty does just about everything for DDRTX at some point or another!  She heads our Reunion, works on the rummage sales, fundraisers, events, fosters the difficult furkids with personality issues, transports, shelter pulls, she's our reference checker, and all around amazingly dedicated volunteer!  Wondering if we can sign her up to be cloned?!
James and Kat Jones are our representatives in the Corpus Christi area! They are owned by several dachshunds who have mom and dad wrapped around their tails. They help with shelter pulls, fostering, transports and fundraising - sure could use some more help in the Corpus area!
Mylissa and Erika have been fabulous assets in the SA area. Mylissa fosters and transports as well as helps with fundraising, Erika has been great with support, transports and helping at events. Both ladies are with the San Antonio Low riders - a group of dachshund lovers who meet monthly for get togethers!
Joni Falconi - What a compassionate and helpful volunteer Joni's turned out to be! She's adopted two dachshunds from us and fosters sweeties who are waiting for homes, giving them care and manners training as well as enjoys their antics and introduces them to children!  Thank you for all your help, Joni!
Sandy Overmire is my rock, my confidante and my friend.  Sandy fosters, does shelter pulls, transports and home visits, and is a huge help to me when I have to drive distances!  Sandy helps with the annual yard sales and the Adopter's Reunion, fundraising, she also does a myriad of other necessary things for me in rescue, too many to mention - and she is always there to support me in times of need.  I could not do this without her being by my side.  She has a love for the breed and a willingness to help in so many ways.
Ellen Lockwood and Cathy Valdez are a valuable and dedicated foster home, who also assist with so many other aspects of rescue such as meetings, the adopter's reunion, the annual yard sales, transports, shelter break outs and home visits. Ellen and Cathy have always been available whenever needed and are genuinely appreciated for their support, efforts and care that they offer to the wee ones in their home.  Ellen has been amazing with her support, her knowledge, her assistance and her strength.  Both ladies have always there for me by lending moral support, offering their advice, and keeping me grounded.  Ellen allows me to lean on her and gain strength from her. I am forever grateful and indebted to both of you ladies!
Ted Manganello is the talent behind designing this wonderful web site.  He is a wonderful doggie parent and assists me greatly with home visits, transports, the annual yard sale events, adopter's reunion, support, fundraising, plus so many other things that has ever been asked of him. Truly a very much appreciated and dedicated individual that I'm indebted to forever and honored to know. His caring and willingness to help me help the dogs, through thick and thin, has been dramatic and has made a very special place for him in my heart.  Every time I think of the Manganello family, it makes me feel truly blessed that they are a part of my life.  I would like to adopt the entire Manganello family!
Glen and Kim Manganello are also previous adopters who have been amazing.  Glen is the talented designer of the DDRTX logo, and Kim helps out with the Annual Adopter's Reunion, yard sales, transports and shelter pulls.  They have assisted with fostering and volunteer in many other ways with our fundraising efforts and spreading the rescue word. Both have enormous hearts and adore their little dachshund fur kids, their kindness and assistance has been wonderful!
Mike and Barb Conley are absolutely awesome. They have been invaluable with their sincere caring and experience in rehabilitating dogs with severe health care needs.  They are the parents to Angel, the amazing little doggie in the wheelie cart who needs them and adores them so much.  They have fostered for us, do a lot of transports, shelter pulls, home visits, and driving - Barb also is a quilter and doggie bed maker.  Her talent and experience at sewing and as a pediatric neurological nurse are absolutely invaluable when it comes to fundraising and caring for special needs dogs.  Mike and Barb truly love this breed and their genuine caring shows in their choice to make dachshund rescue the main charity that they want to be involved in.
Cheryl Egmon is our 'absent foster mom' right now, having moved to Bermuda for a two year stint with her job.  Cheryl has been an absolutely wonderful friend.  She has fostered, done shelter pulls, transports, home visits and has always made herself available to help in many ways.  Cheryl's assistance and guidance in applying for our 501c3, accounting and budgeting is such a phenomenal and wonderful way to assist us from the far away Bermuda islands.  Cheryl has also helped with annual adopter's reunion, fundraising, and general emotional support. Her heartfelt concern and genuine love for dachshunds is obviously apparent and so greatly appreciated.
Maya Drinkall has been a real joy with her assistance in transporting, fundraising, shelter pulls, help in placements, home visits, the annual adopter's reunion and the yard sales.  Even though she's moved to Austin, she will continue to assist with home visit coordination and transports to that area. Her sense of humor and willingness to jump in and work hard has endeared her to us all.  Her love of the breed is shown in her willingness to help us out with whatever needs doing.
Jennie Burdett has been a lifesaver - literally! She arranged for little Princess PJ to get to me for emergency vet care after picking her up in critical condition from the pound, now that's a special person!  Jennie is working hard with the others to get our annual adopter's reunion set up and she helps with home visits, shelter pulls, fundraising and transports.  Jennie has also enabled us to have some great flyers printed up.
Cayce Kovacs has become an absolutely necessary and integral person to me and the dogs. She came to us with a willingness to help and share her shelter and rescue experience.  I am very grateful for her calm and down to earth knowledge, guidance and assistance.  Cayce fosters, does home visits, fundraising and shelter pulls, in addition to creating our rescue database and many other necessary things that she helps us with! She and her husband have assisted with all sorts of things from building the database, helping with the yard sale and fundraising, not to mention her emotional support and dedication to the betterment of the lives of all dachshunds in need.
Leon & Nancy Alexander adopted a big fella from me a couple years back and been avid supporters ever since.  They help with shelter pulls, transports, occasional short term fostering, fundraising events, yard sale and are always there to make us laugh and smile while happily helping out the dogs in need. My sincere and heartfelt thanks to you both.
Barrett Brunner Houlihan has been an amazing supporter, friend and an absolute avid dachshund lover.  Barrett helps out with anything she can, including transports, phone calls, reference checks, meetings, and fundraising.  When it's my time to pass to the rainbow bridge, I would like to come back as a dachshund and live in her home!  Her wonderful sense of humor and bubbly personality has helped me laugh many times when I have wanted to cry.
Susie Seidensticker is someone whom I have learned a lot from in the past couple of years that I've known her.  Susie fosters some of our rescued wee ones, helps with transports and is a wealth of dachshund information.  Susie breeds dachshunds for show, conformation, health and socialization for the betterment of the breed. She is amazingly responsible in her care, love and dedication to this breed. Her fostering assistance has been nothing short of life saving for me and the dogs, not to mention sanity saving!  She's always been there for me to lean on and is always so chipper, happy and ready to help, truly a Godsend for DDR.  To Susie and her family, words escape me on how truly thankful I am for you guys and your willingness to offer a place to stay for the dogs.
Robert & Sarah Sanchez have been fabulous and helpful volunteers!  Sarah is helping to work with the annual adopter's reunion, has helped with the yard sale, fundraising, short term fostering, transporting, shelter pulls and a host of other things.  She has offered to take care of our signage for the yard sales and raffles for the reunion.  She sells Tupperware and has been instrumental in fundraising efforts through her work as a sales representative for them.  Robert and Sarah have adopted two dachshunds from me in the past several years and their love for the breed is evident in their caring about other dogs' futures, health and happiness.
Carol Yount has recently moved to Boerne.  I'm sure it's so she can be closer to me in Kerrville so that she can help the rescued dachshunds with transporting, home visits, fostering and so many other things that have and will be, asked of her!  Many thanks to Carol for the foster care and understanding guidance she's shared with several of our little homeless kids.
Debi Silva is a relatively newcomer to DDRTX, but has so far been an absolute joy to have joining us in our rescue work.  Debi is assisting others with setting up and planning the annual adopter's reunion, will help us with fundraising, yard sale events, home visits and transports in addition to many other things that she has offered to help with.  Her assistance, eagerness and willingness to work hard for the best interest and happiness of the rescued dogs will be so very much appreciated in the months and years to come.
Joyce and Steven Gengler are two of our "Angel Wheels" of our group. They do pick ups, deliveries and transportation of many of our wee souls all over the state, from the Dallas area to the tip of Texas !  From Houston to El Paso !  They are always cheerful, happy to help and truly seem to enjoy each moment spent volunteering and handling so many of our special homeless fur kids.  Just having recently relocated from California , we are thrilled to pieces that they have chosen DDRTX to spend their time, energy and compassion with!  Their support, dedication and assistance has been, and will continue to be, invaluable to us all!
Diana Perez Balboa has been a fabulous asset to our fostering program. She has worked well with puppies and older dogs in getting them socialized to other dogs, children and humans, as well as working with them on their housetraining needs and manners. Diana is a wonderful lady with a bubbly and happy personality that exudes warmth and compassion for these homeless fur kids. We feel privileged that she's chosen us as her personal favorite group to share her talents and time with, she's helped with the fundraiser yard sales and has done independent fundraisers to help us care for these dogs' health care needs.
Jeri Evans, and her little Yorkie friend, have joined forces to foster and help out dachshunds in need!  Jeri has been amazingly helpful in fostering and we hope she will enjoy the experience and stay with us a long, long time!!!  Always need the experience of a vet technician and definitely have a huge need for foster homes! Thank you Jeri!
Judy Sybert and husband Bob are new to our group, but have already made themselves at home and are so very valuable as a foster home for our especially shy, timid and special emotional issue dogs. Judy and Bob both help with the rummage sale, the reunion and other events and happenings with our rescue mission!  Judy's care and attentiveness to our special kids has been amazing and we are all grateful to have this family join our family!
Marilyn and Lou Paliani are bright, cheerful new faces to our happy, wonderful, compassionate group of volunteers!  We are thrilled that they have chosen us to be the recipients of their attentiveness, caring and ability to foster some of these precious fur kids. Marilyn and Lou are involved with other interests and events, but find the time to foster and help out in any way they can. We appreciate every minute of their time!
