Atticus - Available

Atticus - LUV this boy! Atticus was a stray in the Bandera area who is patiently waiting for a wonderful home to adopt him now that his heartworms are treated. He's a young male being about 4 years old He's completed his hw treatment is ready to meet a potential new family! He's neutered, current on shots, dewormed, and chipped. Atticus was named by the animal control officer who thinks this handsome black and tan silver dapple boy with one blue eye is truly adorable. He seems good w/ kids and most other dogs. Atticus is a blue-eyed bundle of waggin' tail love! Gets along great with other dogs and loves people too. Recently visited a vet specialist for a cough and captivated the entire staff with his winning personality! His cough is merely allergies which we treat with 2 benedryl a day. This boy has the smoothest chest you will ever feel! Soft as a baby's bottom! He loves to snuggle in the big bed with you at night and will sleep soundly under the covers. Great on a leash and in the car. Housebroken too! He is everything you'd want in a doxie companion and more. Atticus will steal your heart when you're not looking...so beware!

Tooter - Available

Tooter is a 2 to 3 year old boy. Came into rescue with some hair loss due to infestation of fleas. His hair is now almost all back and he is a precious little boy. He seems to be sun light sensitive and will stay in the shaded areas outside as much as possible. He will get scared if taken into bright light suddenly as it blinds him. We do put doggles on him at times and it does seem to help. He didn't seem to know what grass was when he first came here and is just now venturing out into the yard. Knows the doggy door and potty pads and is starting to prefer to go outside to do his business (on the patio but at least it's outside). He has attached to his foster dad and dad calls him his little shadow. Does well with other dogs to keep him company. Separation anxiety is a possibility if he is the only kid due to his reactions when foster dad goes outside. Just something to be aware of. Toot is a wonderful little boy and would make a great addition to your family. Will be fully vetted, up to date on shots, fecal tested, neutered, heartworm negative and micro-chipped by time of placement.

Cordy - Available

Cordy has been with us since April after being abandoned at the dollar store down the street. She is a Chiweenie and is about 3 years old. She only weighs about 9 lbs. She is a healthy little ball of energy and will be great for someone who has a lot of energy. She is very loveable but seems to take awhile to adjust to humans, as most rescues do. She is very happy and loves to dance. She needs a specific type of food (Natural Choice - herring meal) as she has sensitive skin. We have taught her to sit. She is not much for toys, but is very affectionate and loves to sit with and be held by her humans.

Sunshine - Available

Sunny came to us with SEVERE generalized demodectic mange and is going through her treatments to get rid of this problem. She's otherwise fully healthy, hw negative, current on shots, parasite treated, spayed and chipped. Soon as we get her hair to grow back in all pretty, she'll be available. She's very young, and I'll update her bio with an exact age soon as the vet gives me his best estimate! Sunshine does well with other male dogs, but I don't recommend females. She can be territorial at times. LOVES to snuggle in blankets. Her demodex could come back when she gets under stress, so I recommend a calmer, stable environment. She's good w/ older kids, no cats, and uses the dog door almost all the time (unless it's closed and she can't go in and out! More to come on Sunny as she recovers! UPDATE: Sunny's ready for a home! her hair has finally almost completely grown back in after her demodectic mange treatments, she's a pretty little red girl now with just a couple patches of thin spots. She's fun, bossy, affectionate, energetic, loves lap time, and is very independent! Sounds like a typical dachshund girl to me! Please adopt Sunny soon!!

Charity and Ranger - Available

Charity is the sweet, little girl in the front. The handsome guy in the back is her boyfriend, Ranger. They come to us from the Montague County Cruelty Seizure. Charity is a busy, active little black and tan short haired girl who is about 4-5 years of age, best guess according to her teeth (due to lack of care and malnutrition, her teeth are a poor indicator of her age - she acts younger!). Charity is only 10 pounds of pretty girl yearning to learn and live the good life! She does really well with other dogs, but is in love with Ranger. They play together all day, and when they aren't playing, the are cuddled up sleeping in their doggie bed. Now that she's all vetted, spayed, chipped and ready for a home, she's ready to be adopted. She'd love to be adopted with her beau, Ranger. He helps her be brave!

Ranger appears quite young, probably around 12 to 24 months and is a handsome black and tan short haired tweenie. He is a bit on the thin side at 13 pounds. Ranger is ready to meet a home that will have some patience with him, and encourage him with gentle kindness because he can be a little skittish. He loves his girl Charity. They hang out together all the time, play, sleep, and eat together. They also love chasing cats together, so a home with cats is not a good idea. This boy will blossom in the right home! Ranger's neutered, had his shots, fecal and heartworm negative, and ready to meet you today! He's got a wonderfully "houndy" appearance, and I can see that he really wants someone to go slowly with him, while he adjusts to life as a spoiled house-dog! Ranger would love to be adopted with his girlfriend, Charity.

These two sassy seniors enjoy each other's company very much! Kristi Lou is a red hot smoothie, and Stevie Nix is a foxy silver dapple. Barkley - Available

A very handsome but extremely skinny little chocolate short haired boy was found as a stray and ended up at a local pound where he was set to be euthanized before Christmas. He is about 11 pounds. Barkley needs some housetraining as I suspect he was left outdoors most of his life, but he's so very intelligent that I expect him to learn quickly! He's been a fun kid to get to know and I just know someone out there is going to have a lifechanging event when they adopt this darlin' little fella! Update: Barkley has adjusted to doggie door, uses it beautifully. He's fun, playful, and his coat is a gorgeous chocolate color. He's completed his heartworm treatment and is ready to meet you soon as possible! Great little guy who enjoys a good wrestle and play time with other dogs. No cats please.

Charlie - Available

We almost weren't in time to save Charlie from euthanasia - we are soooo full of dachshunds that we didn't have a foster home available for him, so we almost said no when we got the call from a central Texas area kill facility. We squeezed him in, a volunteer picked him up just before he was due to be put down, and she drove him out to Kerrville. Charlie is very young, I'm guessing around 12 to 18 months, he's a red short haired mini boy with a vibrant personality. LOVES to sleep in big bed under covers, give kisses and learning to play with toys! He joyfully runs around the house and uses potty pads or doggie door very well. Good with other dogs, chases cats, a little hesitant at first due to his having been seized as an animal cruelty case. Our tiny little Charlie was tied to a tree with no food, no water, no shelter. The notes we received mentioned he and another dog were being beaten by the previous owner - however, with gentle touching and reassurances that I will never let him be hurt again, he's quickly rebounding into a great little dog - I hope his suspicions about being hurt again will dissipate with time, compassion and gentle handling. Charlie is low heartworm positive, so he must go through treatment before he will be available for adoption. Fallen in love with Charlie? Feel free to sponsor him while he's in treatment! UPDATE: started his heartworm treatment! will be good to meet potential new parents in another 20 days! He's an abuse case, so I don't recommend small children or cats. With people, if you have a kind and gentle but firm hand with him, he'll be the best buddy you ever had. He'd eat til he pops, so he'd need to have a specific amount fed to him, otherwise, he'd be a vienna sausage in no time!

JOHNNY on the Spot! - Available

Hailing from San Angelo, Johnny is a cute little piebald dachshund. He is between 3-4 yearsold and only 12 lbs! He is neutered and up to date with full set of shots, micro chipped, and housebroken. With help from the local Humane Society a DDRTX volunteer pulled Johnny from death row on his last day, at the last minute. This is why we dubbed him "Johnny on the Spot". This boy is very healthy and active but not overly hyper. He just goes ballistic over cats. Way past the chew stage, he loves playing with his toys. His favorite place to sleep is on your pillow. Johnny loves people more than anything and is the sweetest companion one could ask for. He does okay with other dogs but would do best in a home as an only dog so he can soak up all the love he deserves. UPDATE - Johnny's been having a bout with back pain - he's being kept calm, still and crated with anti-inflammatory and strict crate rest. Another couple weeks and he goes back to vet for an update. Keep your paws crossed that Johnny will be fine and dandy and ready to be adopted shortly! He's doing much better and seems quite recovered from his back pain episode. I would recommend a calm home with no stairs or other larger dogs that could aggravate or re-injure him. He's a great dog and his foster home has fallen in love with him! Let's get him a home so that she has room to take in another foster dog!

Abby Fay - Available

Abby Fay and Jerry need to be adopted together. They have been in a stable foster home for over 6 months and these two have just blossomed! Jerry is a true lover boy and prefers to snuggle at any given opportunity. He's even been sleeping in the big bed without even a wiggle to wake his people up. Jerry is house trained to a doggy door. Occasionally there will be a marking on the bedding but it is very rare now. Abby is really the miracle kid. From being scared of her own shadow and never allowing anyone to touch her she now likes to snuggle on the couch and get belly rubs. Abby has her safe places but still does not like to be caught or touched if she is on the floor. Her foster mom has been working on that and it is getting better. She does some of the quirkiest and funniest little things now that she feels safe. These two need a patient, safe and quiet home where they will be treasured forever for the little treasures they are.

Keely - Available

Keely is not much to look at right now but this little darlin' is precious as the day is long. She came to us from the Arlington area where she was found on the streets with demodectic mange, a heart murmur and a nasty eye infection. We're cleaning her up and taking care of her mange and infections, nothing we can do about her heart murmur, but hope that once she's healthy she'll live a nice long life! Keely's about 12 pounds of red shorthaired cutie and her age is difficult to determine at this point. Probably around 5. The name Keely means "beautiful on the inside" and this little angel is definately that. UPDATE: Keely's right eye may need medication or drops for the rest of her life as the vet calls it "dry eye". Her coat is all shiny and grown in, she's a happy dog who bounces and barks with joy! She'd love a home with a yard that she can act like Tigger and bounce around in!! Please consider adopting her soon.

Helen - Available

Helen was rescued from the Bandera pound by one of our volunteers while helping with the Utopia puppy mill seizure. Helen was supposed to be adopted but it never happened and her time was running out. She won the hearts of many with her great personality and forever wagging tail even in the worst of times. Helen is blind due to unknown reasons. There is evidence of possible head trauma but it sure doesn't affect her demeanor. She is house trained to a doggy door and will also use potty pads. Her greatest pleasure in life is to sit on your lap and always be close to you. She is around 6 or 7 years old and deserves to live the rest of her life in a forever loving home where she will never know the feeling of being lost and a cold floor. Please consider adopting this precious little girl and you will not regret it.

Mason - Available

Mason is a gorgeous, small, short-haired, brindle boy, born approximately June 15, 2007, and currently weighs 9.5 lbs. Found as a stray, he was turned in to San Marcos Animal Control severely malnourished at barely 7 lbs. Believe it or not, he does have a microchip, so you'd think it was just an accident that he wound up at the pound and that his owners would be ecstatic about getting him back. Unfortunately, that's not true in a lot of cases, and absolutely not true in this case. The microchip was traced to a breeder who was able to provide the name of the people who purchased Mason, and sadly, they are the very same people who turned Mason in to the pound in such poor condition. Mason is shy, especially with men, and shies away from being picked up by anyone. He has finally warmed up to his foster dad though and is also a very cuddly couch potato with his foster mom. Because he was mistreated, he will need lots of love and attention when he gets to his forever home in order to open up and be the perky little boy he has shown his foster family that he can be. Mason does have two deformed canine teeth that will require daily brushings and regular dental check-ups. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm preventative. He does well with older kids and with other dogs. Although it appears cats are not his favorite thing, we don't actually know how he would react if he came face to face with one. So, get your application in right away so that you can help Mason continue on his journey of learning to trust humans again!

Pugsley - Available

This little guy is a tenacious and curious little red short haired Terrier mix (sorry, not a dachshund!). I call him Pugsley due to his turned up nose and under bite like a little pug, so that could be what this terrier boy is mixed with. He's very standoffish and fearful with strangers and people who move too quickly - which is totally understandable after all he's been through in his short little life, but he warms up quickly to warm gentle people. I estimate his age at around 2 years and weighs about 13 pounds. He's neutered, current on shots, micro chipped, and we'll fecal and hw test him prior to placement. If you have a calm, gentle home and want a boy with big brown eyes as a companion, please consider giving Pugsley that clean, loving home that he deserves and is searching for.

Crnya - Available

Crnya - (pronounced sern-ya) is a pretty black and tan lady who will turn 5 years old in May and weighs about 14 pounds. Crnya was adopted through ddrtx in 2007 but due to a death in the family, she needs to find another new home. Her folks adopted Levi to be her buddy and pal, so we would like for them to stay together if at all possible. They've both lost their homes twice now that we are aware of, this time, we'd like to make their new family a permanent one. If you'd like to meet this pair of dachshunds to see how they interact and if they'd do well in your home please contact us today!!! Crnya is a great girl - not hyper or busy, just an average level of energy, and she really does like her pal, Levi who is a red short haired boy. Crnya is fully vetted and ready to find that forever home.

Levi - Available

Levi is a red male who was adopted to a family just two years ago, but due to death in the family, he and his lady friend, Crnya need to find a new home again. Levi is 4 years old adn about 12 to 13 pounds. He's fully vetted and healthy as a dog can be! We would love to see Levi and Crnya adopted together if at all possible. He's a medium active dog who gets along well with most other dogs and enjoys snuggling under the covers. He'll bark at cats and hunt squirrels in the back yard, but other than that, he's a delightful dog with no behavioral issues. Please consider adopting these two great little dogs and adding them to your family!

Astro - Available

Astro is an active, fun, playful, and attention loving little chocolate short haired fella who's about 12 pounds and we guess around 2 to 3 years of age. He plays well with other dogs, male or female. Astro arrived with several other animal cruelty case siezed dogs from Houston area, and he too, has heartworms and needs to go through treatment, so he won't be available until the end of March. He's a fun boy with energy and no shyness issues. He'll be fully vetted prior to placement. UPDATE: What a HOOT this boy is!! He's started his hw treatment and will be treated conservatively - so won't be ready til the end of April, but OMG is he a fun little fellow!! He needs housetraining and is getting adjusted to dog doors, but since he came from a puppy mill / cruelty case, he doesn't know anything about house manners yet - it'd be like getting a puppy - start from scratch. Remember the end of April to adopt Astro! Update: Astro's done with his heartworm treatment and recovering perfectly with no problems or side effects. He plays and runs and barks with his doxie friends here in Kerrville and is waiting for that special someone to appreciate his dark chocolate coat and perky pesky practically perfect personality! Needs some housetraining and no cats please, but loves to play and wrestle!!

Milo - Available

Milo came to DDRTX from a breeder seizure and was a timid little guy at first. He has really come out of his shell in his foster home and has learned that people can be sweet and loving to him. He's very playful with other dogs and showed off his sensitive side when his foster Mom babysat some doxie puppies. Milo made a point to check on them frequently and became very concerned when they cried. So touching! He is an absolutely gorgeous dog and has the cutest habit of always sticking his pink tongue out just a little bit! Milo will play with other dogs, but when it's time to chill out, he heads for his crate. He feels secure in it and enjoys his privacy. Milo would probably enjoy a more quiet home where he can gain confidence at his own pace. He is a very special boy and you will fall in love!

Conan - Available

Conan is a standard - a big strapping, handsome chocolate longhair boy who is about 5 years of age. He came to us from the big animal cruelty siezure case out of the Harris County area. Conan is heartworm positive and has already begun the first part of his treatment. He'll be ready to consider homes around the end of March. He's had his shots, treated for parasites, and will be neutered before he's adopted. Conan is shy at first, but then when he gets to know you, he's a friendly, happy dog who enjoys petting and attention. His life started out not so good, please consider making the rest of his life a happy, healthy one so the memories of his puppyhood are just a bad dream. Conan just had a full dental done and he lost some teeth. UPDATE: Conan is ready to go! He's big, he's beautiful, he's also a little on the timid side with hopeful, happy eyes!! He's Conan!! Please adopt this gorgeous male model dachshund soon! Conan won a costume contest at WoofStock in Helotes recently, so he's quite proud of himself now.

Millie - SPECIAL NEEDS - Available

An adorable little black and tan puppy! she's only about 8 to 10 months of age and is already having to undergo a really traumatizing surgery to amputate one of her rear legs. Millie came to us from the Waco area where she was apparently injured either by being run over (crushing her leg) or possibly by abuse, hard to tell for certain. This puppy's leg was left untreated for months and healed in a way that popped her hip out of socket; causing great pain. DDRTX volunteers stepped up to help this puppy get into our program where she could receive the surgery necessary to relieve pain and enable her to have the opportunity to find a home that will love and care for her. Millie is a typical dachshund puppy, full of kisses, playfulness and cuteness! Her foster mom said she couldn't stop hugging her because she couldn't imaine how much pain this little puppy has gone through while her leg was left shattered to heal improperly. Once she heals up from her surgery and re-learns to walk on three legs, she'll be available for adoption. photo and video to come soon!! Update: Millie is now about a year old. She has recovered completely from her surgery and most people don't even notice she is missing a leg. Millie herself doesn't much notice. She has matured into a beautiful dachshund! She runs and plays and teases. This girl is sweet, sweet, sweet. She loves to play kissy face and drape herself around your neck. She is a real snuggler. Millie is housetrained, potty pad trained and walks on a leash. Millie likes her toys and playing with other dogs. What Millie doesn't like is cars. She is scared of riding in cars, but has improved with positive experiences. Millie would be such a fun addition to a family. She would brings lots of fun and joy along with her. She is spayed and ready to interview families.

Austin - Available

Austin [Montague County Cruelty Seizure dog] Handsome black and tan cutie pie!! Austin has probably the best, most outgoing personality of all the puppy mill dogs, so it makes me wonder if he'd actually spent much time there.. He's a black and tan mini short haired boy who is about 7 years of age - like I've described before about mill dogs, they don't get the proper nutrition or care that house pets do, consequently, their teeth and mouths are generally really rotten. Austin is no exception to that rule. In fact, he has had every single black, rotten, squishy tooth in his little head removed and dental surgery to cover up the fistulas (holes) going thru to his nasal passages. Whew, talk about expensive!! Please donate!! Austin is recovering well and loves his canned food. He's thinking he's a special boy since he is the only one here eating canned food! Austin is fully vetted, chipped, neutered, ready to meet you!! He will give kisses, get in your lap, sleep in your bed, uses dog door, loves to cuddle up in blankets! Austin is NOT old, he's middle aged, he's not handicapped, he just eats canned food. GREAT with most other dogs (preferably female), he's fine with cats too! (not like he can bite them with no teeth!). Older kids I think he'd adjust well with.

Bubba and Vienna - Available

Bubba is a handsome, sturdy, very muscular black and tan tweenie/small standard fella who came in with his mom, Vienna. Bubba just turned 5 in March, he's HW negative, on preventative, neutered, current on shots, fecal negative, micro chipped and ready to play! He adores his mom and plays well with her, kisses her face, and keeps a protective paw near her at all times. Please consider adopting Bubba with Vienna, they are a match made in heaven! Vienna is a very sweet, outgoing and kissy lady who loves belly rubs, petting, ear scratches. She is very well behaved and is a true lady! She's a red tweenie short hair who will be 9 in November. Their parents hated to have to give them up but due to life circumstances, Miss Vienna and her boy, Bubba, are needing a new home with another family to protect. Vienna is spayed, current on shots, and heartworm tested. This is one special lady who I really adore! Please consider adopting Bubba and Vienna if you can, they really do enjoy one another's company, and I'd hate to see them separated at this time in Vienna's life. Having been outside dogs most all their lives, they prefer to be outdoors over indoors, no matter what I've tried! It's been a challenge to housetrain Bubba, so he'd make a great "inside/outside" boy, if they had access to a doggie door or somewhere that they could get in out of the heat/cold weather, I'd consider that over them being crated or left inside all day.

Mary Ann - Available

Minnow and Mary Ann are a pair! and not just any pair, these two are perfect little angels with great personalities who are very well mannered. They are red miniature short haired dachshunds who are out of that puppy stage, and not yet elderly, so a nice, comfortable middle aged pair. Minnow is about 6 years of age, and MaryAnn is 7. Minnow is totally healthy, neutered, chipped, etc., but Mary Ann has a serious case of heartworms that is causing a nasty heart murmur... her treatment will be long and slow so that we can hopefully save her life so she can enjoy a new forever home with Minnow! It'll be a few months before these two are ready to go, unless you'd like to take Minnow now, and wait for MaryAnn to complete her treatment and join you later! Please consider these two -they are just incredible dogs! Update: Mary Ann started her heartworm treatment, and we are closely watching her for any side effects. I'm keeping her still and crated for the next two weeks while the immiticide does it's job to kill the nasty heartworms. Her boy, Minnow misses her terribly! These two really ought to stay together, please consider adopting this mommy / son pair as soon as Mary Ann finishes her treatment!! REALLY great family dogs!!

Tobie - Available

I'm Tobie! I'm a male, mini piebald and only 2 years old. What a world! I don't want to miss a thing! Every new sight and sound is a joy for me! I'm a young boy who has lots of life to live. I'm determined to enjoy every minute it gives! I'm in a new foster home now and I think that is really cool. I've met some friends and love to play with them! In fact, I love to play until we all get so tired our eyes can't possibly stay open a minute longer! I love the people, the dogs, the house, the yard . . . in fact I simply love everything about being rescued from the shelter! I'm minding my manners and have mastered the use of the doggie door in just one day! With a routine and reminders I am doing great with being an inside dog. I sleep quietly through the night in a comfy kennel with friends nearby. I love having friends to play with and pass the time! I sure hope my new home will have a playmate for me to keep company! I'm an active boy who thrives on attention, interaction and love. I like to play ball and (unlike some of my new friends) will even bring it back to you just hoping you will throw the ball again! Maybe they will catch on that if they bring it back, the game continues! I'm smart and loving and just waiting for a forever home! Tobie loves kids and babies. He's great with other dogs too! I can hardly wait to show off my sparkling personality! If a good game of fetch and a lot of love sound good to you . . . just let me know! I'll be sure to be right on it!

Taffy - Available

Taffy! OMG... LOVE HER! Little bitty girl doggie was picked up as a stray and was in a kill shelter when we got the call about a blind double dapple whose eyes weren't fully formed. We are certain she came from the same breeder that we got Mocha from a few years back, as they look identical! Taffy is blind yes, but she doesn't know she's supposed to be handicapped! she loves her toys, her ball and squeekies! tiny little munchkin girl at only about 7 pounds, she's about 5 years of age, good with all other dogs and has such a happy, sunny disposition that we all fell for her immediately - so will you when you meet her! She knows how to use doggie door to potty outside (yes, she's housetrained!), loves her snuggle bed, she's an independent little lady with the best temperament ever! Taffy won't be here long, I'm sure someone will scarf her up quickly!

Salem Lee - Available

This is Salem Lee! He's a cute chocolate, short-haired dachshund. He weighs 12 pounds, so he's a pretty small guy. Salem is only 8 months old, just a puppy! DDRTX pulled Salem from the pound in Waco, Texas, the same place where we found Cinnamon Bunz. As you can see from the video, Salem and Cinnamon Bunz have the same birth defect with their feet, where they don't have bones in their toes. Their legs are also a little crooked. But, this doesn't stop Salem from running, jumping, playing, and having a great time! He gets along great with other dogs, is fine with cats, and is fine with teenagers. Once you meet him, you'll be hooked by those big brown eyes. He's a cutie, and he knows it!

Sierra - Available

Sierra is also available for adoption. She is free of hw. We have had her since April. She was abandoned at Ft. Sam. A friend of ours (from St. Mark's Church) found her and paid all of her vet bills. She would have died from an infection the vet discovered if he had not rescued her. She is probably about 7 years old. Very sweet. Content to lay with us or under a blanket on a pillow. She is a little coy, but takes to people very quickly. Loves to give kisses and chase squirrels. Would probably be good for an older person. Gets along with our other dogs. Very, very loveable.

Mindy - Available

Mindy, along with her husband Mork, came into rescue three days after having 7, yes 7, beautiful, long-haired babies in a shelter. She is a calm, lap loving, kissy girl. Mindy has been an incredibly doting mom on her pups and now she is telling them they are on their own as she jumps in the chair to take a snooze and get away from them. Unlike her husband, Mindy is very good about her house training. In the beginning there was a lot inside use on the potty pads but as she has been in her foster home she has learned the doggy door is for going potty outside. If you want to adopt them together I'm sure she'll be instrumental in teaching Mork "the ropes". She is so smart and will melt your heart with those eyes. From what history we have, we understand she was a traveling dog so car rides and vacations will be right up her alley. She also has a very pronounced over-bite that does not seem to bother her in any way. Mindy will be spayed as soon as she totally regains her girlish figure and will be up to date on all her shots meaning she will be ready to come into your life and make you fall in love! So fill out an application and prepare your hearts for years of love.

Sam - Available

Sam is a cutie! Not quite all doxie, his nose is a smidge too short and his legs a teenie bit too long, but he has a doxie personality. He is all black with brown eyes which will melt your heart. We think Sam is 3 yrs old and he was rescued from a shelter in Killeen where he was a stray . . . someone had obviously loved this little guy, but sadly they failed to register his microchip . . . so they could not reunite him with his owners. He is housebroken with a doggie door, good with critters (not cat tested yet), plays well with other dogs and loves to snuggle. His favorite place to be is on the couch next to you or under the covers in the big bed. Sam would be great in an active household where he can be a part of the family. Sam is neutered, has all his vaccinations, is heart worm negative and ready to find his forever home!

Leon - Available

Leon may be a little scruffy looking, but don't let that put you off. In a few months he will be as handsome on the outside as he thinks he is! Leon is about 5 yrs old, a black short haired mini boy who wants nothing but to play and be your buddy. Leon was surrendered to the kill shelter in Austin because his owners did not want to treat his flea infestation, all that scratching and irritation caused him to loose his hair. However, the fleas are all gone now and with good food and a lot of love he is improving every day. Leon appears to be housebroken to a doggie door, good with other dogs (although a little shy at first), not cat tested and likes to bark at critters. Leon is neutered, heart worm negative and on prevention, had all his shots and is ready to find the home he deserves.

Sadie - Available

Sadie was picked up as a stray in Medina County. She was so sweet, however, that the Animal Control Officer felt that he just had to save her and contacted DDRTX. Sadie is a classic black & tan tweenie girl. She has a long-back, short, chunky legs and is absolutely beautiful. Sadie is young possibly only a year or two old. However, she is a fairly low energy dog and is extremely well-behaved. She is working on house training. Gets along well with other dogs and older children. Hasn't been tested with cats or young children yet. She will be vetted soon and her status will be updated. This one is a real charmer. Update: Sadie has been vetted and is healthy, healthy. This dog is one of the most well-behaved dogs I have ever fostered. She is slowly catching on to housetraining and we will continue to work on that. The vet confirmed her age to be about 2 years and said if he could handle another dog he would adopt her in a second. For being only 2 she is relatively low energy. She enjoys playing with the other dogs, but is soon cuddled up next to you. She sleeps in the big bed without a wiggle all night long. One of her funny quirks is that she needs some loving before she start to eat her meals. Love comes first.

She does, however, adore people and would love to be someone's constant companion. Laid back with a very sweet personality; if Fiona is not following her foster mom around, she is curled up on the couch snoozing. She's great in the car, fine with cats, enjoys the occasional swim and so far hasn't had any accidents in the house. Tank is a tweenie, black and tan male, and weighs 17.5 pounds. He is 9 years old, fully-vetted and will be ready to go after hw treatment. Tank is the most well-behaved dog his foster mom has ever met. It is hard to imagine that he came into Diamond Dachshund as part of a cruelty seizure. He is house-trained, leash-trained, comes when you call him (except at bedtime, unless he's sleeping in the big bed), does not chew and has yet to bark. He is a real charmer who is more intellectual than athletic, but loves to have a walk when you are ready. His favorite activity is to sit with you and watch a great movie. Tank is a real charmer that would be a wonderful companion for anyone and would do great with another dog. Tank is a smart little guy that picks up on the energy around him. Loud noises and rough play can scare him, and he will look to his person for reassurance. He is very friendly, sweet, does well with all people and his foster sister - who has been caught trying to pounce on him. He takes it all in stride and is a shining example of a dog's good-nature. Tank is a dog to spoil, and will return your love a thousand times over.

Sienna - Available

Sienna is a great girl. She is a 5 years old Sienna is in a foster home and gets along well with her foster brothers and sisters. Sienna is great with older kids. She is great with people too. She loves to cuddle and looks at you with those big brown eyes wondering what is going on. She gives gentle kisses. She is coming out of her shell and looks happier already. She was at the shelter because the family had too many animals. She came to us already spayed, housebroken and her teeth have been taken care of. The unfortunate thing is that they didn't give her heartworm preventative because she has heartworms. She will have to go through the heartworm treatments. So she isn't available for adoption yet. Biscuit loves to hang out on the couch, or under the covers in the big bed and is sweet and loving, but is a little shy at first especially with men. He walks nicely on the leash, is good with other dogs, but likes to bark at critters. He has learned how to go in and out the dog door and is working hard on remembering to go outside to potty. Biscuit will be visiting the vet to be neutered, get his shots and HW test soon.

Suzie is the most house trained dog her foster mom has ever met, walks well on the leash and gets along with other dogs, kids, cats and critters. She loves to hang out on the couch and be petted. Unfortunately Suzie is about twice the weight she should be weighing in at 24 pounds. But she is on a healthy diet now and with short walks to build up her stamina we hope she will be loosing the weight soon. Suzie would love a home where she can be the center of attention, but with people who can resist her longing stares for table scraps, and who will keep up the gentle exercise she needs to be able to keep loosing weight. He's a short haired tweenie who weighs in at 14 pounds and is fully vetted, neutered, shots, fecal and hw negative, on preventative, de-wormed and ready to meet a new family who can put him on that pedestal and adore him as we do! Adonis is learning the doggie door, loves his blankets and toys, and is great with the girl dogs, a little dominant with other males - probably because he's knows he's the best looking hunk in town!

Sabrina - Adopted

We estimate Sabrina to be at or under 2 years of age. Due to her circumstances of being used as a breeder, her teeth appear older than she does! She could be as young as 12 months. This beautiful red long haired princess came to us with two puppies, so as soon as she's got them weaned and we can let her recover from that, then she'll be spayed and brought current on everything. Sabrina is not housetrained, tends to bury her food, is busy and active little beauty who I suspect will be good w/ kids, adults, other dogs but I don't recommend cats since they'll run from her and the chase is on! If they don't run, she'll bark at them. Sabrina would LOVE to be given the chance to live in a house like the little princess she is! I estimate her to be ready to meet new homes by the middle to end of January.

Dinah - Adopted

Dinah is very very scared! The loud noise of the kennel and other dogs frightens her. So if you are a single person who lives quietly she'd be the best dog for your home! Dinah is a pretty tiny little chocolate lady who was born in September of 2005 so she's four years and four months old as of January. Once she gets to know you, just try to keep her out of your lap! Very small and only weighs like 7 pounds. She's healthy spayed, current on shots, chipped, and fecal negative. UPDATE: LUV her! Girlfriend dog loves to eat, so I gotta put her on a diet! Pretty chocolate girl who came in very scared and timid, but now she jumps all over me, in my lap, on my legs, and wants me to carry her! The picture of her is cute, but she looks very scared and was - she's much better now!!

Comet - Adopted

Comet is such a handsome fella! He's a black and tan longhaired cutie with some blue in his eyes. His date of birth is February 12th, so he'll be four next month! What personality and bounce to this boy! He's been really good with other dogs, especially girl dogs, and is friendly and affectionate! He's fully vetted and ready to meet approved families so he can choose who he wants to spend the rest of his life with!

Ariel - Adopted

Ariel & Athena!! These two sisters are too beautiful for normal names so they had to have princess names! Ariel and Athena are red/mahogany brindle striped longhaired divas! They MUST stay together and be adopted together, please don't ask me to split these sisters up!! Once you see them together you'll understand why. They are perfect angels, with bouncy kisses and love to give. They need some more housetraining as they are only puppies still. They are now 6 months of age, spayed, current on shots, fecal neg, hw neg and on preventative, they both weigh 6.8 pounds each! these gorgeous little ladies won't be with us long, please consider adopting them today!

Rudolph - Adopted

Rudolph - aka Rudy - is a double dapple that we got from a kill shelter where he was discovered to be partially deaf and some minor vision issues due to his being a double dapple. Rudy is fully vetted, healthy, and great with most other dogs! He loves his blankets, digging for treats in them, and eating! He's being kept on a diet right now because this little cutie will con you out of any tasty morsel and it goes straight to his hips!Rudy is about 4 years old, weighs 13.8 pounds. His white coat is stunningly white with red spots and beautiful blue eyes. Please consider adopting this handsome fella soon! this is a funny little man with the best sense of humor who doesn't take himself too seriously. He loves to play and cuddle! Great with other dogs and even my cat...He has been wonderful in the house, no accidents and goes outside to do his doggy business, never inside!

Axel - Adopted

Axel is an outgoing, friendly, red short haired boy who is approximately 12-14 months old. Size wise he's a nice svelte tweenie being around 17.6 lbs. . He is in a foster home with 6 other small dogs, loves to play and gets along with everyone. He would really enjoy the company of another dog in his furever home. Axel has mastered the doggy door and is being walked every day so that he will have nice leash manners. He's always ready for a game of fetch or a cuddle on your lap. He does enjoy sleeping under the covers at night. Axel's sweet personality and easy-going nature just melted his foster mom's heart. One look at those precious eyes and you will be hooked too! He is a real joy to have around and will make a wonderful addition to any family. UPDATE: Axel is quite honestly, the best dog we have in rescue. He's perfect! Why is he still here?! Axel's back was horribly burned with some type of acid and has left scarring - but that's done nothing to his incredible personality and temperament!! You looking for a buddy? a friend? a fishin' partner? someone to clean up crumbs as you cook?! That's Axel!! He'll keep you feet warm at night and is generous with kisses!

Jeager - Adopted

Hi there! My name is Jeager and I'm a very happy fella. Being only 18 months old, I'm very playful and love to fetch, tug and think up other games that we can play together. My most favorite is BALL!!! I'm around 14 lbs and a gorgeous black and tan gentleman, so my foster Mom says. I'm a very good boy with my housetraining and have had almost no mistakes at all. Not sure what I would think of cats, but I sure do like other dogs and people. Inquisitive and smart as a whip I keep everyone on their toes when I'm around. Of course, a warm lap to snuggle in is also a wonderful thing too. At night, I could sleep with you or I will be a very good boy and sleep quietly in my crate with my blankie. Up-to-date on all my shots, fecal tested, neutered, heartworm negative and microchipped is my medical history. I even just got my nails done and I was such a good fella I got treats when I got home. I REALLY would like a nice home with people to play with. If you're looking for a great dog and a wonderful companion, I'm the guy for you. Please put in an application soon, I'm just full of love to give.

Twyla - Adopted

Twyla is a 2 year old, red mini short haired female who is only 8 lbs, but needs to gain about a pound. Little Twyla has a severe overbite and gets a dental tomorrow so we'll know if she loses teeth, but regardless we've got her on mostly soft food with a little dry food mixed in. She eats like Hungry Hungry Hippo...her top jaw grabs it and pulls it into her mouth since her lower jaw is so much smaller. Sweet as can be, follows one of us around or sits on the couch under the blankets with foster dad. She sleeps under the covers in the big bed, gets along with all our dogs, seems to get along with kids. Doing pretty good on housetraining. Loves to ride in the car! This cute little darlin' is fully vetted, spayed, fecal and hw negative, and will be ready to meet new homes this next weekend!! Please apply today to meet Twyla!

Smiley Miley - Adopted

Smiley Miley is the cutest, sweetest little mini chocolate short haired girl ever! She came to us from the Houston animal cruelty siezure as well, and I was thrilled that she's a rare "smiling" dachshund! Very few smilers come through rescue and we all just love it when they smile at us! that's not a snarl, not a growl, she does that when she's happy!! Pretty Miley is only about 2 or 3 years of age, and guess what... yeah... darn it she's pregnant and wayyy too far along for us to spay her, as she is due in 7 to 14 days! yikes! when taken into the shelter from the siezure, she only weighed 5 pounds, so she's a tiny little girl. She will be fully vetted prior to placement, which means after her pups are weaned and she's healthy. No heartworms and she's got shots, treated for parasites and will be microchipped as well as spayed before she gets adopted. Will update her bio when she graces us with the presence of her youngsters. UPDATE: Smiley Miley had her babies!!! I don't know about her, but I'm exhausted! LOL!! three boys and a girl all very colorful. One is having to be bottle fed every two hours (hence the exhausted foster mom!). Precious little Miley will be busy with her kids for at least another 8 weeks, then we'll get her spayed and she can meet you! Will post updates about her puppies, but please know that we cannot and will not adopt out puppies until they are spayed/neutered and had all three sets of puppy shots. We will however, allow a potential adoptive home to foster the pup after it's had all its shots, until it's old enough to be sterilized, then we'd formally adopt and transfer ownership. We call that "puppy provisions". UPDATE: Miley will be ready to try out a new home after the 17th!!! Her boys will have their full set of puppy shots in another 3 weeks and we'll get them posted on the website shortly thereafter!

Banjo - Adopted

Hi there, my name is Banjo and I weigh in at a solid 17 lbs. Pure muscle I might add! Being a small standard and a dashing red color, I sport a beauty mark on my back where there is a solid small patch of white. No one will every confuse me with someone else! My story is a little sad. I was abandoned on the back patio of an apartment when my owners moved out. They just left me there all by myself with a dish of water and a small bag of dog food. I was so very, very worried when no one came to help me. But a wonderful lady found me and rescued me, taking me home with her and helping me overcome some of my abandonment issues. I really loved her. Unfortunately, she has to move and I can't go with her so I came to live with my new foster parents who really love me a lot. I am a very sensitive fella and want to please oh so very much. I don't know how to use a doggie door and it scares me BUT I know to stand by the door and bark to let you know that I need to go out. I love to go for walks and ride in the car. I get along very well with other dogs but don't know much about playing with them. You see I'm 4 years old (9/11/2006 is my birthday) and came to live with my first family when I was just a tiny pup so I don't know much about socializing with others or playing with them. I'm very very intelligent, so I'm trying to learn things as fast as I can. As you can see I have a wonderful handsome face and chiseled, muscular body. If you need someone to help you get a good night sleep, I just love to sleep in the "big bed" and like to snuggle right up to you. I like to cuddle up in the chair with you and sometimes I just want to play a little with you too. I play "catch the hand" and tug the rope pretty well. I REALLY like men, even though my foster Mom is just dandy too, I seem to prefer my foster Dad most of all. I use to go fishing with my other Mom and would play with the fish that you catch. I ride in the front seat or the back if that's what you want but most I just want to be with you, wherever that is, and I truly am your shadow. I'll "talk" to you with barks and low tone woofing. I'm waiting for you to come get me. Please don't make me wait too long, I miss you already!

Betty Lou - Adopted

She's a pretty little chunky snuggle bunny! Betty Lou was actually thrown over a fence at a shelter where it was thought that she might have a medical problem due to her weight. What we discovered is hypothyroidism, one half of a very inexpensive pill once a day and she's doing great! Loosing that adorable baby fat, and playing so gently and sweetly with little puppy boy Laddie. She's a GREAT dog, house trained to doggie door, great with all other dogs, big beautiful brown eyes! shes' fully vetted and ready to meet you today! Age estimate is about 6 or 7, weight is variable because she's loosing that chubbiness now that she's on levothyroxine. She'll make someone the best companion ever, so if you are looking for an older, calmer, sweet and gentle soul as your new family member, please fill out the application to adopt Betty Lou soon!

Herzog - Adopted

Herzog is just the sweetest loving red tweenie short haired boy ever. Very calm, unobstrusive but hes been lonely for a long time and needs to be held and reassured. We think he's about 3 or 4 years old. Glues himself to you like velcro. He will tremble and stop after a while when he relaxes. Does okay with the other dogs - wants to follow you everywhere. Somebody has been mistreating him and not giving any attenion. He craves human affection so much. and hes very easy to love. He really needs to be with peeps to keep him company. Hes not one bit of a problem in the house - His eyes really show it how lonely and sad he is and how much gratitude he has for being loved. This boy has heartworms, so has started his treatment - is neutered, current on shots, chipped, almost ready except for the nasty heartworms. Update: Herzy has gotten his shots for heartworms and is being closely monitored, so far, so good! He doesn't even seem to notice and is being his usual self. So sensitive to verbal command though, so a gentle home will be best for this fella. Please come meet him soon!

Bridget - Adopted

Bridget is a red wire haired cutie! Very bouncy, perky, playful at only about 18 months of age and 11 pounds! She's good with most other dogs, no cats, older kids will be fine with Bridget. She's fully vetted and healthy as a small horsey! We don't get many wire hairs in rescue so it's been fun to have her quirky personality around for others to play with. I think Barkley is totally smitten with his new girl friend! Apply soon because wire haired dachshunds don't last long in rescue!

Zoey - Adopted

Zoey is a sweet little longhaired, chocolate girl weighing in at about 9 pounds. She was an owner surrender from a neglectful situation in the Ft. Worth area. Left outside to live through the heat and cold for two years, with no protection against mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, and the like, her owners decided to give her away for free because they were moving. They listed her on a local website where someone saw her and thankfully sent the information to Diamond Dachshund! Within two days, Zoey was rescued by some wonderful friends of Diamond Dachshund who transported her to San Antonio. When she arrived into the arms of her foster mom on Good Friday, she was sadly covered in so many ticks that some of her gorgeous hair had to be cut just to get to them! Now that she's all cleaned up, on excellent nutrition and supplements, and receiving regular brushings, Zoey's her hair is growing in quite nicely. She is also coming out of her shell. At 2 years old she loves to cuddle on the couch and sleep in the big bed, but she is also ready for the occasional wrestling match with her foster siblings. She follows her foster mom everywhere and can be very protective, partly because Zoey is mostly deaf and startles easily. But that doesn't slow her down. She watches the other dogs and is very in tune with her other senses. She does have an aversion to being crated and being left behind a baby gate, but Zoey is doing so well with her potty training, that she doesn't need to be crated or confined. Zoey is an absolute love bug and would be a great addition to a family who would understand her special needs. Zoey would also prefer a home with another dog or dogs so she can get in some play time!

Laddie - Adopted

This photo doesn't show the real true cuteness of little Laddie! He's about 6 months old, had demodectic mange, but is all cured now and has such a soft, shiny coat. Laddie is a bit shy at first with strangers, but his friends Barkley and Betty Lou are wrestling that shyness right out of him. He wanted to bark at the cats til he discovered they were bigger than he is! hard to bark, tuck tail, run all at the same time while trying to not 'lose face' with his buddies! Laddie is fully vetted and will be interviewing to see who he wants to adopt really soon! Get that application filled out and remember that he's way cuter in person than in this picture!

Rocco - Adopted

You're going to fall in love with Rocco and his buddy Major Max! Rocco is a longhaired mini black and cream dapple boy. Seriously! He's incredibly beautiful. He's only 16 months old, weighs only 7.5 pounds! He's learning doggie door fast and wrestles around with his friend, Major Max (wait til you see them!). Rocco is fully vetted, hw negative, neutered, and chipped. He will need housetraining and leash training, which he'll learn quick since he's so smart and eager to please.

Baxter - Adopted

Baxter is a very handsome red piebald shorthaired boy who weighs about 16 lbs. He loves to play with other dogs and walks well on a leash. He is housebroken and uses a doggy door. Baxter has an excellent temperament. He is loving, gentle and gives tons of kisses. He will sleep in the big bed or in a doggy bed. He is neutered, utd on vaccinations and on heartworm preventive. He also has a wonderfully soft coat that makes you just want to put him on your lap and pet him for hours! He knows the "sit" command and "leave it". This laid back, fun loving dog will make a wonderful addition to any home.

Riley Roo - Adopted

Riley Roo is an English cream longhaired male who is just handsome. He's about 2 1/2 years old, weighs 7 pounds, is crate trained, still learning how to walk on a leash and good with other dogs (not sure about cats). He's completely vetted and healthy. Riley Roo has been his foster mom's shadow as he follows her everywhere. If he can't see her he barks. He loves to be held and have his fur brushed.

Sapphire - Adopted

Sapphire - another little blue dapple cutie - but this one is short haired! Sapphire is quieter, gentler, and calmer than the others from her litter. Also is supposed to be around 10 months of age, with the teeth of a three year old due to the malnutrition and lack of proper health care. She's going through mange treatment and getting healthy before we can finish her veterinary care. Sapphie will make some family an incredible little friend. She's very small, only about 6 pounds at this time, and I hope to kick start their systems with healthy food, supplements and care, so maybe they'll grow a bit more yet.

Lucille - Adopted

Lucille - chunky monkey! lucille is a red longhaired bundle of sweetness! She's only 3 years old, but about 4 pounds overweight, should be a tweenie girl and is just starting to get a waist from all her activities here at the weiner ranch! Gigi is a black and tan silver dapple lady who is about 3 years old and weighs 10.8 pounds! Pretty, shiny coat, loves attention, laps and lots of petting! Little Gigi will make someone the best fur-daughter ever! I recommend older kids, probably no cats, gets along with other dogs, is non-dominating. Shivers a little and seems to enjoy her sweater during these cooler days. Gigi is spayed, current on everything, hw neg. and micro-chipped!

Jimmy Dean (J.D.) - SPECIAL NEEDS - Pending

JD - aka - Jimmy Dean - is a red male short haired boy who is about 11 pounds and best estimate for age is 7 to 8 years of age. JD is a playful, rambunctious boy and an avid hunter - because of this gregarious and outgoing personality, he decided to make friends with cattle... got kicked... caused severe damage to his front leg, causing us to have to amputate it at the shoulder. JD has learned to walk, run, play, use dog door and be himself on three legs! It's been amazing to watch his recovery as the loss of his leg doesn't seem to faze him in any way! Jimmy Dean is ready for a home, he's fully vetted, fully recovered and totally healthy! UPDATE: Jimmy Dean is the BEST little fella! he acts as though he's lived his entire life w/out that one leg that got damaged by a calf kicking him. He has a high metabolism so I keep him on puppy food to keep the weight on the little guy. You couldn't ask for a better behaved yet independent dog!! The only handicap this boy has is how people view him. He's one of my all time favorites!! consider adopting him today, he deserves a home of his own!

Braxton - Pending

Check out this guy's video!

Honey - Pending

Honey is a beautiful light red dapple lady who is about 3 1/2 to 4 years of age and weighs around 14 pounds. She's a gentle girl who likes to snuggle and give little kisses. Honey was a stray found in the Waco area. She's good with other dogs and older kids.

Honey has been in foster care since March 20th. She was very shy when she arrived but now that she feels comfortable she has made herself right at home. She follows her foster mom everywhere. She is very mild mannered and enjoys lying around. She'll go in the crate to rest and play but she isn't fond of it once the door is shut. She prefers to sleep in the big bed under the covers. She loves belly rubs first thing in the morning.

When she first arrived she didn't know how to play/interact with the other dogs. She would just watch them play. She didn't bother them and they didn't bother her. However, now that she's gotten to know them she is beginning to play more. If she doesn't feel like playing with them she'll take a toy, go lay in her crate or small bed and play by herself. She is very good on a leash, will walk right beside you and doesn't pull. Although she does well with the other dogs, her foster mom feels that she would be best in a home as an only dog so she can get all the attention.

Cinnamon Bunz - Pending

Cinny is a PRECIOUS little red short haired puppy who is about 5 months of age, weight around 5 pounds, and who was born with deformed feet. When I saw her photo from a shelter north of San Antonio, I absolutely couldn't say no to her. Cinny Bunz appears to have been born without bones in her paws! She does get around, walks, runs, and plays - I am always stunned and humbled when I see a dog overcome such obvious physical defects with a happy heart and joyful outlook on life. Give us a few more weeks to get Cinnamon Bunz healthy and ready for her spay surgery, then she'll be available for adoption in mid January! Wait til you see her video!!! OMG... You will absolutely fall in love as everyone in rescue that has met her, has fallen hopelessly under her cuteness spell.

Maxx - Pending

Maxx (short for Maxximum Cuteness) is a beautiful Long-Haired, Black & Tan boy about 12-18 months old. He's neutered, Heartworm Negative, up to date on his shots and is a healthy strapping young boy. Maxx is permanently blind, due to being thrown against a fence by his former owner, for barking. But this hasn't slowed him down much, except when learning to navigate new surroundings. He has been with his foster mom for a week, and has already pretty much taken over the house. He loves playing with his foster sister, Ruby. Has made friends with his foster (cat) brother, Tucker, and has mastered stealing balls and toys from them both. Maxx does well on a leash, knows the potty pad during the day, and enjoys couch and lap time. This little boy is sure to steal your heart, and is going to make a wonderful addition to a lucky family. He would do well in a home where there isn't a lot of constant noise, as abrupt noises startle him, due to his blindness. Also would do best in a home, which isn't crowded with lots of furniture and objects. He would do well in a home which is pretty routine, in their daily goings on and such. Maxx is a happy and well adjusted youngster, looking for someone who can be patient with him while he learns his new surroundings. Won't you give Maxx a chance to steal your heart? Get your application in today!

Angel - Pending

Angel is another little mini chocolate girl who was used to living in a home with all the perks that come with that lifestyle! She was born April 6th of 2002, so she's 8 years old, but I swear that's gotta be wrong! She's very energetic, playful, affectionate and friendly. She even hops through the grass like a bunny! She also loves to snuggle in the big bed with her foster mom. Angel's beautiful chocolate coat is not quite smooth, but not long either and her ears are a coordinating golden brown. You really have to meet this adorable girl. Update: Angel is way past ready to find a great home! She's slimmed down and perked up, will follow you anywhere and loves to sleep in the big bed with her people, go for rides, and is such a lady with other dogs in the household, she's an 'easy' dog to have and adore.

Chloe - Pending

This beautiful little 2 year old black and tan girl was found wandering the streets of Kerrville, then held at the pound for a week, is a girl who should find a place in a home quickly due to her perfectly wonderful personality. When Chloe came into rescue, she was heartworm positive, but has been successfully treated. She's an adorable, small, pretty little girl dog with a sparkly personality who loves to give kisses and be held. She has the most amazingly deep bark for a little lady! Chloe gets along famously with cats, other dogs (took her almost a minute to start playing with the crew at my house!) She's not afraid of a little rain and will go outside, unless it's raining hard, then she's ALL dachshund! She even likes small children. Be warned, Chloe is very outgoing and has an effervescent personality that can be addicting. She loves a squeaky toy and will play all day long (between naps of course). Chloe deserves the best out of life and a family that can love her unconditionally.

Rufus - Pending

Rufus (Apollo) weighs 19 lbs. His mom is a black and tan dachshund, his dad is a yorkie, and that makes him a "dorkie." He came into rescue in February of 2009 as a puppy, so he is a bit over a year old. His foster family, who has had him since 02/27/10, finds him to be a delight, full of energy, and always on the move. When he gets tired from his activities, he will curl up in your lap for a nap and some love and attention. He gets along well with other dogs and has the personality of a very lovable class clown. He is rambunctious, playful, loves attention from both people and other dogs and would be perfect for a young, active family. Rufus is spayed, current on shots, micro-chipped, and gets heartworm prevention the first day of every month.

Midnight Sky - Pending

No pictures can ever do this boy justice, he needs to be seen to be appreciated! He's an amazingly beautiful boy! Due to the circumstances of his past, his teeth are aging him more than I think he actually is. Based on his playful behavior, we guess he is about 5 years old. He's a little boy with the energy of a puppy, only about 10 pounds of SOLID JET BLACK short hair with little white flecks of hair throughout his coat, like so many stars in the night sky, hence his name! He's a great little dog, warms up quickly, enjoys petting and kisses too! Please adopt him, you'll never regret it!

Jake - Pending

Jake is a warm sweet little red boy who is looking to give lots of love and attention. He is crate trained, doesn't have any accidents inside and he sleeps well in his crate with the door open. He doesn't snap or bite even though he is a little food aggressive - his foster mom is trying to work with that. He doesn't play much with the younger dogs but he is a friendly little guy who want to show someone lots of love. Vet estimats his age to be around 2 and a 1/2 or 3 years old and he is heart worm negative! He is microchipped, neutered, and healthy!

Harley - Pending

Harley is a handsome 10 year old red dapple boy who would love to be in a home as an only child with a senior citizen - preferably a woman!! Please consider adopting this boy to spend his remaining years in retirement too! He doesn't care much for men, probably due to his breeder, He doesnt like grass, again probably from living on concrete and in a cage, so walks are a must for him! Harley was a breeder dog that never saw the outside of his crate, which is why he does not like the outdoors and loves to be inside - he's lived indoors for years now, and his current family is forced to give him up due to new baby. Harley is a sweet, calm, lazy, boy who is also an obsessive licker who will clean all the dogs ears in the house by licking them. I don't think he ever stops licking except to sleep! what an affectionate boy! He absolutely loves to play ball in the house and will run until he is so exhausted he practically collapses in his doggie bed. He is a wonderful lap dog who enjoys car rides as well. He will sit in your lap for hours and stay by your side and never leave. He is your constant shadow. He is crate, doggie door and leash trained and has gone through a doggie boot camp to sit, stay and lie down. no small children or cats please!

Princess is a sweet little red short haired girl weighing about 11 pounds and around 3 to 4 years old. She's the sweetest pup who loves to give kisses and snuggle! She's energetic, smart, playful and curious, she loves going on walks and spending time with her owner. She'd do really great in a home with another dog for her to play with. She was found in the College Station area and probably came from a home not long before since she's house trained and does really well in the house. She's such a sweetheart who's ready to be in a caring home that gives her lots of lovin. Princess is heartworm positive and will be going through treatment prior to adoption. She'll be available in about 45 days, so the beginning of June. The photo doesn't really capture her cuteness as she's way prettier in person.

I know! stunningly gorgeous! Major is a black and cream longhaired tweenie boy who has been well cared for and is great friends with little Rocco. Major is 17 months old, weighs 12 pounds, is fully vetted and healthy as a horse! Him and Rocco wrestle around and are having a ball barking and playing when they see the goats. He'll need leash and housetraining, but I foresee this intelligent boy being a fabulous family member to just about any home!

Azure - Pending

Azure is a pup to fall in love with! A blue dapple precious longhaired girl, about 10 months of age - hard to tell - due to dismal situation that she and others came from, their teeth look much worse and for a much older dog, due to malnutrition and substandard levels of care. If you have ever wanted a gorgeous blue dapple longhaired lady, now is the time to get your application form into ddrtx! Azure will be fully vetted prior to placement, treated for demodex and spayed. Rambo - Permanent Foster

Rambo got his name because he's a survivor of terrible trauma and injury. He was literally ripped up by a big dog leaving his insides exposed. He had to have emergency surgery to save his life. Rambo spent a week in doggie ICU where he got excellent 24 hour care. He is fully recovered and reviewing applications for his forever home. He's neutered, current on shots, fecal and HW negative. He's micro chipped and almost completely housetrained. Rambo seems to have a stiffened rear end that I don't know if it's caused from the attack or if he suffered back problems previously, either way, he's compensated but needs help to get on the couch/chair or your lap. He does have a heart murmur that does not require medication. Rambo is between 5 and 8 years of age, and only weighs a perfect 10 pounds! He is the most obedient dachshund you'll know and will do just about anything to please his people. He has a mellow demeanor and is so patient with others in the house. Gets along well with other dogs and cats! He is still a bit sensitive around the area where he was attacked, which is understandable, but with gentle care tolerates it well. UPDATE: Well, Rambo has decided that he LIKES it here in rescue and doesn't want to leave - so we have to lie to him when we introduce him to new families, we tell him they are not there to see him! He can be a bit pompous, but endearing with that doxie-tude!

Oscar - Permanent Foster

NEEDS A FOREVER FOSTER HOME, ASK US ABOUT OUR FOREVER FOSTER PROGRAM) - Our very beloved Oscar is sadly back with us in rescue. While we adore him and love him immensely, it's just not fair what life has done to him. He's now about 6 and a half years old, he was two when he came to us. He's a handsome red dapple fella about 12-13 pounds. I normally try to not dwell on sad cases, and emphasize the good happy stories, but this one tugs at my heart until I want to cry. So will you. Oscar first joined us at 2 years of age, he was dumped at kill shelter in south Texas after being horribly sexually abused by a sick teenager. Due to the abuse, his rear end was damaged and he has no sphincter control, his tail is broken so it can't wag when he's happy, the nerves are completely severed. He had bb's in his leg and his knee shattered during the trauma. He can walk on his leg as all the tendons, muscles and cartilage reformed around the break. He limps, but is otherwise completely and absolutely fine! His personality, his willingness and ability to forgive humans for the unthinkable abuse he's suffered is a true testament to this breed's loyalty, ability to love, and forgive. He's fully vetted. He's been back in rescue twice through no fault of his own. No more temporary homes for Oscar. We are dedicated to finding him the absolute best, permanent home for the rest of his life so he won't be homeless or abused ever again. If you would like more information on our permanent foster care dogs, please contact us.

Klaus - Permanent Foster

Klaus is a spunky sweet old boy. Mostly black with a little tan markings. He's a miniature size with energy to spare. He is about 8-10 years old but young at heart. Klaus loves meeting people and always has lots of licks and kisses for anybody that has a lap to sit in. His favorite things are treats and sleeping on your pillow. Not much is known about his past life. He was picked up in a West Texas kill shelter. Poor old boy had a rough life. Just skin and bones, full of ticks and no teeth. He has a slight heart murmur but other wise in very good health. This fellow should be ready for adoption once we get some more groceries in him. He is housebroken for the most part and well behaved for a dachshund. Klaus is very good natured with kids and gets along with other dogs. This fellow truly deserves to have a family to love.

Frida Abby - Permanent Foster

(NEEDS A FOREVER FOSTER HOME, ASK US ABOUT OUR FOREVER FOSTER PROGRAM) Frida is just too dang adorable for words! She's an older red short haired lady who has endured a rough life, we'd love for her remaining years to be full of warm beds, comforting attention and a stable, adoring home. Frida has no teeth, her lower jaw has receded and is shorter than her top jaw which causes her tongue to always stick out and must only eat wet food. We guess her to be about 12 years old, she weighs only 12 pounds, such a tiny girl with an adorable affectionate personality! She is very active, not a lazy senior lady, who gets along amazingly well in any situation, with any dogs, ok w/ cats. Her ability to happily adjust to change and new situations is touching. Please consider adopting or permanently fostering this precious southern belle.

Waylon - Permanent Foster

Waylon has been in foster care since January. He was in rough shape when he was found, but lots of good food and TLC have brought his shining coat back. This little man is sweet as can be but once he hears a noise or someone at the door - springs into "guard dog" mode! He can be sound asleep but must always have one ear open! He sleeps in the big bed every night and spends most of his days napping in a soft, comfy dog bed and sunbathing. He gets along great with other dogs. loves a short walk and rides very well in the car. Sadly though, Waylon's health is not the best. Recent tests have shown that his heart and lungs are damaged. He takes two very affordable prescriptions each day and we are keeping a close eye on his condition so that we can keep him as healthy and comfortable as possible. He will need a home with someone who has the time and ability to care for a special needs dog, but he is so worth it!
