The call came from far away! Lucky for me Rescuer's have good hearing! I was left at a shelter in Texarkana, pregnant and not feeling well. A few relay trips, and a litter of puppies later, I found myself safe in a foster home! I had 7 beautiful puppies that day. But, sadly, one did not make it. I'm a sweet girl, with a sunny disposition and a beautiful silver dapple coat. Despite the hardships I saw, I never lost sight of the beauty in life and have carried that attitude with me. At some point, and the cause is not known, one of my rear legs was broken and left to heal on it's own. After all options were exhausted, the experts agreed it was best to have the leg removed.  I wasted no time recovering and am back to my normal, energetic self!  Having four legs is highly overrated and I don't even notice the change!  I've got great house manners, a very attentive nature and adore being loved and cuddled! My super social personality would fit well in any home and I'm even on my best behavior around my foster Kitty Sisters!  My foster mom says I'm a real beauty, with my long back and svelte 14 pound frame.  I may be missing a leg, but I have more than enough Spirit to go around!  In fact, I'm such a special girl that I was chosen to attend a 6 week training course to learn all the finer things a smart girl like me should know!  I mastered sit, spin, leash walking and come.  "Down" is a challenge yet but we're working on that one.  Having the gleeful "Spirit" I'm known for, I have no issue having lost my leg and am a very happy, vibrant little girl.

With surgery completed, Spirit's recovery began.  She can now throw herself completely into recovering with a thousand thanks for your gracious assistance.   Rescues are always long on dogs and short on funds.  There is still a substantial need to cover the balance of Spirit’s medical and rehabilitation costs.  Would you like to help out with these?  Please consider a donation by clicking on the "Sponsor This Pet" link below her picture, or click on the "How To Help" tab on this website. DDRTX would like to thank everyone who has contributed toward her care.  The generosity of people never ceases to amaze us and we are grateful for the support!
